Filmic Remake

For my filmic Remake, we were given Shaun of the Dead with the scene “She’s so drunk” This is both the post production and pre-production content, with research and shot by shot breakdowns of the scene.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

These are the main parts of the pre-production story board for the Filmic Remake, this slideshow also contains the call sheet for the actors ( we had at the time ) the crew and the local hospitals.

The storyboard only took a span of 2 and a Half full college days to gather all the sheets from my group together. And the call sheet didn’t even take 5 minutes to do.

The purpose of the story board is to have a general understanding of the types of shots and the general narrative of the scene, this all shows actors lines, sound FX, shot type, angles and movements with in each and every shot.

The call sheet is a list of everyones numbers that was involved with the production, the local hospital number is also on there just in case of emergency.

Filmic remake director research:

Edgar wright is a British director, Screenwriter, Producer and actor, born in april 18, 1974. Edgar wright is best known for his three flavours cornetto trilogy. The reason his three films is because each of the three films contain a flavour of cornetto. Red strawberry for zombies, blue original for police and green mint for aliens. Shaun of the dead starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the film is a spoof of the dawn of the dead franchise by George A. Romero. Hot fuzz was the second film to come out for the cornetto trilogy again starring the acting duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. And the last film for the trilogy is the worlds End, with the acting duo once again. These films are all parodies of genre tropes, Shaun of the dead parodies the zombies film genre, Hot fuzz parodies police and action films.

Edgar Wright doesn’t just make parodies, he’s also made a variety of other films that don’t include any tropes that most directors stick with. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world ( A film based off of a graphic novel ) Has a lot of geeky terms only a certain audience would get. Much like his TV show he wrote spaced, in which Edgar quoted it’s a show by geeks for geeks.

Awards:
Edgar Wright has been given 4 awards he holds as of 2017,
1: Empire award for best director – 2011 Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world
2: British independent film award for best screenplay – 2004 Shaun of the dead
3: Empire Inspiration award – 2011
4: Bram Stoker award for best screenplay – 2004 Shaun of the dead

Edgar Wrights’ style:
Fast action style editing, usually mundane tasks
These include a lot of whip pans and crash zooms.
He also often uses dead pan humour in fast-paced events and moments, this makes the audience relate to the characters and the situation they may be in.
Edgar Wright has included a running gag where a jump over a fence usually goes wrong. e.g. Shaun of the dead, a scene where Shaun says “what’s wrong? never taken a shortcut before?” and jumping over a fence except it collapses and he falls to the floor.

Edgar Wright also has a particular style of action, most of the time it’s comedic or synced to music.
He also uses a lot of sound FX that can be herd at timed moments in his films. The best example for this would-be Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world because the amount of video game and 90s sound FX that can heard during certain parts, and some of them aren’t even what the character is doing. They can be heard in the background.
Edgar Wright tends to use a lot of pop culture references in his films, references that again only a certain type of audience would get and understand.

During the filming of Shaun of the dead, Edgar wright actually changed a lot of plot points to make the story make sense. Such as during the pub scene, he had Nick Frost make up some of the backstories of the pub regulars. The majority of it was scripted but Edgar wanted Nick to put his own spin on it, asking what his character might actually do in that situation to cheer his friend up.

Edgar wright also has a thing for timing in his films, such as when Ed is talking to Shaun about the end of his relationship with Liz. He goes on to say “I’m not going to say there are plenty more fish in the sea, I’m not going to say if you love her let her go. And I’m not going to bombard you with clichés. But I will say this… it’s not the end of the world” Right as Ed says that line a zombie bangs on the door window and moans. A lot of directors has a thing for perfect timing, but Edgar wright seems to be using it all the time.

Shaun of the dead research:

What the film is about:

Shaun of the dead is a film about a man named Shaun (Played by Simon pegg), who’s life isn’t exactly going very well. His job is a bore, his relationship has hit an ice berg and crashed and he lives in a small house that he shares with his Best Friend Ed (Played by Nick Frost). Ed is a slop whom doesn’t do anything except drink beer and play video games which greatly annoys Pete (Played by peter Serafinowicz), a house mate that practically owns the house and constantly tells Shaun to get his life together.

Everything is all going the same for Shaun until he starts to notice the world around him is changing, Liz (Played by Kate Ashfield) his girlfriend brakes up with him, leaving Shaun in a state of regret and sadness.

He and Ed then go out for a drink to forget about Liz, in coming back to the house they decide to have a little drunk party late at night. Pete then comes down and shouts at Shaun and Ed telling Shaun to get his life together and to stop defending Ed all the time.

Before Shaun falls asleep drunk on a kitchen chair, he writes down ‘Get life together and get Liz back’

In waking up with a hangover, an inspired Shaun decides to sort everything out. The only problem is Shaun not only has to deal with own broken life, but a hungry horde of Zombies.
This just becomes another chore for Shaun to deal with, as him and Ed go out to find a secure place for themselves Dianne (played by Lucy Davis), David (Played by Dylan Moran), Liz, Barbara Shaun’s mum (played by Penelope Wilton ) and his stepdad ( Played by Bill Nighy). Hoping this situation will relieve his dilemmas.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg wrote the script for Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright happens to be the Scriptwriter, Screenplay writer and the Director. Simon pegg was help enrich the script, fleshing out more of the characters and giving them personality, especially his character Shaun and Nick frosts character Ed.
